How Long Does A2P Registration Take?

A2P 10DLC registration typically takes days to a few weeks, depending on vetting and rejections. Here's the timeline and how to avoid delays.

A2P 10DLC registration typically takes anywhere from a few days to a few weeks end to end. Brand verification is often quick when business details match official records, but campaign approval goes through carrier vetting, and any rejection restarts part of the clock. There is no guaranteed timeline — plan for weeks, be pleased if it's days.

What the timeline actually looks like

Registration has two stages, and each has its own wait:

  • Brand registration: submitting the business's legal name, EIN, and address. When everything matches IRS and public records exactly, this can clear quickly. Mismatches trigger manual review or rejection.
  • Campaign registration: describing your use case, sample messages, and opt-in flow. This goes through third-party and carrier vetting, which commonly takes longer than brand approval and can queue up during busy periods.

Timelines also vary by provider (Twilio, the platform behind many CRMs, etc.) and can change as carriers adjust their review processes — which is why anyone quoting you an exact number of days is guessing.

What causes delays

Most delays are self-inflicted. The common culprits: a legal business name that doesn't exactly match the EIN record, a missing or inconsistent privacy policy on the client's website, no visible opt-in language where phone numbers are collected, vague campaign descriptions, or sample messages that look promotional when the use case says "customer care." A single rejection can add days or weeks, so getting the submission right the first time is the real timeline hack.

What agencies should do about it

Start registration during client onboarding — before the ad campaign launches, not after the first leads arrive. If texting is blocked while registration is pending, you're paying for leads you can't follow up with quickly. Build A2P into your onboarding checklist and set client expectations that texting goes live once carriers approve, not the day the contract is signed.
